National Science Day is celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm on February 28 every year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by the Indian physicist, Dr. Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman on the same day in the year 1928. National Science Day is celebrated as one of the prominent science festivals in India every year, during which students of various schools and colleges demonstrate motley of science projects as well as national and state science institutions exhibit their latest researches. To commemorate and honor this event always in the future, 28th of February was asked to the then Government of India to designate as a National Science Day in India by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in the year 1986. Every year NCSTC announces a new theme to celebrate.

In the spirit of this day, U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) ( Formerly known as ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) ), conducts various science related activities with school students. URSC is organising various competition with the objective to create enthusiasm among school students and to inculcate scientific temper among the students.
