NSpD-2024: Summary
The National Space Day 2024, commemorating ISRO's historic lunar landing near the Moon's Southern Pole region has been celebrated by URSC teams in a befitting manner. Three programs were conducted with wide arena of events. A one day celebrations for students of Bihar was held on July 29, 2024 in Patna. A guest lecture by Lt Gen Ramesh Halgali was organised for employees of URSC on August 2, 2024. URSC Open day, with a special exhibition of Spacecraft Subsystem Technologies was organised on 10th and 11th August 2024. THE NATIONAL SPACE DAY IN PATNA, BIHAR
Technical sessions were presented by Shri P. Jayasimha, Project Director – GSAT-22,23,24, URSC, ISRO and Dr. Sandeep Aashish, Professor at IIT Patna, who shared their expertise and insights with the audience. Video session featuring the Chandrayaan mission, Tribute to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Aryabhata (By BCST Bihar) was presented, receiving high praise and appreciation from the audience. A quiz competition for students in class 8 and above was organized. Out of 550 registered students for the preliminary round, 6 teams advanced to the final round. The final round was met with great enthusiasm and acclaim from both participants and the audience.
An exhibition showcasing student-created models and paintings was organized. A total of 78 models from 40 schools and colleges were submitted, while 50 paintings were displayed. The models were inspired by the theme "Indian Space Program: Past, Present, and Future" covering topics such as Chandrayaan, Aaditya, NISAR and launch vehicles. Additionally, students presented imaginative models depicting their vision for the future of space exploration.
GUEST LECTURE BY Lt Gen RAMESH HALGALI
National Space Day committee in collaboration with Seminar committee has organised a Guest lecture on “Shaping space transformations” by Sri. Ramesh Halgali, Former Deputy chief of Army staff, Retd. Lt. General on the 2nd Aug 2024 at Sathish Dhawan Auditorium, URSC.The power packed talk filled with patriotism, velour and pride for the nation and was indeed an infectious talk including humorous anecdotes from his army career.
![]() He applauded URSC / ISRO for our achievements & hoped to look forward for collaborations between the defence forces in the field of communications, Artificial Intelligence, target identification, GPS etc., He also spoke of our impressionable mosaic of our achievements - capability of nation building through uplifting of economic resources, urban development, natural disaster management etc. The talk also covered net assessment- Indian global space map, technological growth, economic growth & scientific growth as critical imperatives, impact of privatization and the need for it and also actions by our key players IN-space and NSIL. URSC OPEN DAY WITH SPACECRAFT SUBSYSTEM TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION
National Space Day committee has also planned and conducted the Spacecraft Subsystem Technology Exhibition at URSC campus on 10th & 11th August 2024. It was an open day for all registered visitors. A total of 600 visitor registration per day were done by using the registration website for the URSC Open Day Space Exhibition. The visitors were given a specially designed ENTRY PASS and Chandrayaan-3 pamphlet as a remembrance of their visit to URSC. Provision was made to visit permanent exhibition of URSC, Thermo-vacuum test facility, clean room viewing through checkout lab, video show in Sathish Dhawan Auditorium, in addition to stall of Spacecraft Subsystem Technology Exhibition.
![]() The exhibition was declared open and inaugurated by Smt. Ramalakshmi N, Outstanding Scientist, Deputy Director, Industry and Indigenous Area. She visited every stall in the exhibition and appreciated the herculean efforts made by each group in the centre to reach out URSC’s satellite technology to the public. Later Sri M Sankaran, Director, URSC along with Deputy Directors of various Areas also visited the stalls and appreciated the exhibits and displays. During the exhibition, there was enthusiastic crowd on both days and people of all age groups visiting the stalls. The general public who have expressed their immense gratification and thanked the committee profusely for giving them the opportunity to visit ISRO campus and explore the various space technologies. ![]() The volunteers eagerly received them and engaged the children in the “Do you know” challenge, interactive activities and rewarded them with chocolates which brought an innocent smile in every child. It is surprising that some children as small as 2nd or 3rd standard could identify some of the commercial components and were inquisitively asking questions. The college goers and the elderly were equally engaged and enthused by the exhibits. The visitors were super excited and enjoyed, when they were shown a “Soft Moon Landing video of Chandrayaan-3” in the URSC Auditorium. In a nutshell, the signature campaign says it all, that the curiosity has been kindled in the children which was the main agenda of this event.
