World Space Week (WSW) 2021 was celebrated at URSC during October 4-10, 2021 in hybrid mode (online & in-person) with the theme as “Women in Space””. Inaugural function was organized at Satish Dhawan auditorium in the august presence of Dr. K Sivan, Secretary DOS/ Chairman ISRO, Shri. M Sankaran, Director, URSC and Shri A V Nirmal, Chairman, WSW 2021. Chief guest, Dr. B N Suresh, Chancellor, IIST and Guest of Honor, Dr Lalithambika, Director, Directorate of Human Space Program, ISRO HQ joined the inauguration virtually.

As a part of WSW celebration, URSC organized various competitions and interactive sessions for the general public and students of Karnataka in virtual mode owing to the pandemic restrictions.

Around 400 students across Karnataka actively participated in various competitions which includes drawing competition organized on 4th October in 3 categories(Class 1-4, 5-7, and 8-10), Picture Perception and Creative Writing competition in 2 categories (Class 5-7 and 8-10). On October 5, 2021, a new event called 'Space Kid', a fancy dress competition, was conducted for students from LKG to class 2. This event created enthusiasm among general public and children. Space Quiz was organised on 7th of October for the students of class 5-7 and class 8-10.

To have a larger outreach among general public, URSC jointly with All India Radio Bengaluru 101.3 FM Rainbow initiated a special interactive program named as“Exploring the Space”. The program was aimed to enhance the knowledge about Space Science and Satellite Technology in the form of talks and interactive session by senior scientists of URSC. The program was broadcasted every day from October 04, 2021 to October 10, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. An on-air quiz was also conducted on all these days during the program where 70 participants won various prizes.

Valedictory function was organized on October 8, 2021 at Satish Dhawan auditorium in the gracious presence of Shri. M Sankaran, Director, URSC, Shri. A V Nirmal, Chairman WSW 2021, Chief Guest Dr. P S Goel, former Director, URSC and former Secretary, MoES and Guest of Honor, Smt. T K Anuradha, former Director, SCNP,ISRO HQ. Winners of WSW 2021 competitions were announced during the valedictory function. Program concluded after the vote of thanks proposed by the Member Secretary, WSW 2021.
