NSD-2024: Summary

nsd-img National Science day is observed on February 28th every year to pay tribute to Bharat RatnaDr. C.V. Raman for his discovery of “Raman Effect” in 1928. Government of India designated February 28 as National Science Day (NSD) and is celebrated every year to commemorate discovery of Raman Effect since 1986. On this day, Dr C V Raman, announced the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.


The theme for National Science Day -2024 is 'Indigenous Technologies ForViksit Bharat'. With this theme, URSC organised 6 relevant events for the students and one event for teachers on 17th and 24th of February 2024.


We had an overwhelming response from the schools around Bangalore and as far as places like Hosur, Hubli, Chitradurga and Gangavati. We are happy to apprise that about 88 schools took part in. About 600 students and teachers participated on 17th Feb events and the number stood at 400 on 24th February events.

Science in Action About 113 students participated in two categories i.e. 5th to 7th standard and 8th to 10th standard. However the demonstration was open for all the students on both the days. 24-02-2024

The celebrations culminated on National Science Day i.e. 28th February 2024 which was marked by a prize distribution ceremony and a special science lecture. This function was conducted at the Satish Dhawan Auditorium at URSC, presided over by the Director, URSC. We have awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and consolation prizes for each categories of all the events. On this day, apart from prize winners, we also encouraged two students from each school to witness the function. The special lecture was delivered by our chief guest – Prof.Biman B Nath who is a professor of astrophysics at the Raman Research Institute of Bengaluru and an eminent speaker. He delivered a lecture on ‘The Multi-coloured’ Universe which was enjoyed by the students and teachers alike.


The National Science Day-2024 committee salutes to all the participants, both students and teachers for their interest and spirit. We congratulate all the prize winners. We thank to all our colleagues and volunteers who have contributed directly or indirectly to make this function a success.
