As part of celebrations of 75th year of
Independence (Azadika Amrit Mahotsav), Space on Wheel Exhibition was
conducted by URSC at two schools in Kanakapura Taluk on 25th Sept
2021, namely, Govt High School, Dyavasandra in the morning session
and Rural High School, Harohalli in the afternoon session.
The event consisted of exhibition by Space on Wheels, along with
about 17 standees, spacecraft & rocket models depicting growth
& achievements of ISRO and a presentation highlighting 75
achievements of space program in India. Being the Rural and
Kannada medium schools, presentation was made in Kannada language.
As the selected day was the birth anniversary of Prof Satish Dhawan,
a brief video remembering the visionary, Father of Indian Space
Programme was showcasedas part of the event. The Spacecraft &
Rocket models and the standees were explained in Kannada to the
students in batches. Small batches of about 5-6 students were
allowed to enter the Space on Wheels bus following COVID-19
protocols strictly. Astronaut selfie corner was positioned in
open area to facilitate the children for capturing selfie. COVID-19
Protocols like Hand sanitizers were organised at the entrance of the
bus as well as near the selfie corner.
About 100 school children from three different nearby schools along
with the respective teaching staff attended the event. The
three schools are Govt High School, Dyavasandra, Govt High School,
Kadujakkasandra and Govt Higher Primary School, Kadujakkasandra.
Block Education Officer (BEO), Dept of Education of Kanakapura Taluk
participated in the public outreach event. Similarly, in the second
location, about 200 high school students from Rural High School,
Harohalli and another 200 students from Govt Junior College,
Harohalli attended the event along with their teaching staff.
Students were curious to know about the principle &working of
satellites and launch vehicles, Challenges in the realization of
satellites and their applications to the societyetc. Both the Space
on Wheels and the exhibition were well received by all the students
and were appreciated by school staff/management. Overall, the
event was conducted successfully with students from rural area
participating enthusiastically. The team of 11 volunteers keenly
contributed to the success of the event and were very gratified to
take the Space on Wheels Exhibition to the rural area students.
